Powder Coating

All our steel legs are powder coated.

Powder coating is one of the youngest surface finishing techniques in common use today.

First used in Australia in circa 1967, powder coating is the application of dry paint to a surface, giving

a final coating similar to a 2-pack wet paint. In normal wet painting, the solids are held in suspension

in a liquid carrier, which must evaporate before the solid paint coating is produced.

With powder coating, finely ground particles of pigment and resin are electrostatically charged and

sprayed onto the surface to be coated. This surface is electrically grounded so that the charged

particles adhere to it, until melted and fused into a solid coating in a curing oven.

The result is an attractive, durable, high quality finish. It is also environmentally friendly – unlike

liquid paint - as no solvents are used, so only negligible amounts of VOC’s are released to

atmosphere .
